The Company is proud to have several affiliations which recognise the outstanding role that our Armed Services provide. Our affiliations include the Royal Navy’s new Type 45 Destroyer HMS Diamond, launched in late 2007 and recently deployed into her first active service.
The Company is also proud to be affiliated with 19 Company; Middlesex & NW London Army Cadet Force based at Heston, Middlesex. The Company sponsors an annual Cadet Endeavour Award with the winner being selected by his or her peers within the Company. A silver cup is awarded together with a framed certificate of Endeavour; the award is usually presented by the Master, in the field, at annual Summer ACF Camp.
The Company also enjoyed a 14 year long affiliation with Trafalgar class submarine HMS Turbulent before the Boat was decommissioned in July 2012 after completing 30 years of service with the Royal Navy. The Company is proud to have amongst its Freemen and Liverymen no less than four former Commanding Officers of HMS Turbulent who served on the Boat during her service with the Royal Navy’s submarine command.
Through the Company’s charitable fund, a first class education for worthy and deserving students is supported at ancient City Schools including King Edward Witley School, Reed’s School (both now in Surrey) and the Guildhall School of Music & Drama.
Additionally, the Company awards annual ‘art & design’ prizes at the City of London Girls School, the City of London Freeman’s School and King Edward Witley School. Winning Students also receive a presentation pack of the Master’s Installation commemorative playing cards.
Playing cards were the sole source of entertainment in mediaeval times. Playing cards were plentiful and affordable and card games were played in coffee houses, ale houses and home parlours. Cards were also played during rare work breaks. The Company is essentially the main option for those from the ‘entertainment’ industry wishing to join the livery. The Company is interested in hearing from candidates who are engaged as playing card makers, board game makers, bridge players, the computer games and the casino gaming industries. Prospective candidates from other parts of the entertainment industry will also be considered for admission to the freedom. Those interested in learning more about the Company but do not know a Liveryman personally should contact the Clerk for guidance using the 'Contact Us' form.
The Company regularly participates in various Inter-Livery sports and other competitions including the Poulters’ Pan Cake Race, the Prince Arthur Cup Golf and the Environmental Cleaners Clay Shooting
